Things are poppin' with the committee, music, slide show, food, and lots of fun talking, laughing, dancing, and remembering. Looks like the web site is going to be around, without the ads, for quite a while, thanks to DONATIONS from some classmates.

Someone has suggested an after reunion slide show CD or DVD of the reunion, itself, so there will be things poppin' even after the reunion...and maybe even until the next reunion. Isn't this fun!!!.

It's not too late to RSVP!!!

So don't miss it!!!

Always take care,
The Committee

Beach Boys and the tragedy of our generation -Brian Wilson

In a message dated 6/12/2007 8:01:17 A.M. Central Daylight Time, dguarnery@yahoo.com writes:

I've been so immersed in the music for the past months that my connection to the groups who gave us such wonderful tunes isn't so distant.

So last night we went to see Brian Wilson at a local winery music venue.  His band was terrific.  Al Jardine, who live in Big Sur, has been traveling with the group as well.  We were sitting in about the 4th row.

I don't know if any of you know what happened to Brian - abused physically by his father, and during the mid to latter 60's his lost his mind due to LSD and Cocaine and was virtually catatonic for the better part of 25 years.

He walked on stage, his hands limp at his side, no smile.  He sat in a tall stool behind a keyboard with one arm hanging down most of the time.  He only touched the keyboard once during the whole evening.  But he didn't play it.

And about 40 minutes into the concert, he got up from the stool and laid down on the stage.
They helped him up and he said: ladies and gentlemen, I'm sorry but I can't finish the concert.

He had a fainting spell.  He came back about 15 minutes later, and did finish - but his reactions to the crowd were very child-like.  Bending at the waist after each song like a 1st grader at his first recital.   God Bless Al Jardine who stood next to him, keeping an eagle eye on Brian and finishing lyrics when Brian zoned away.

I guess you could debate if it's right for such a damaged person to be touring and putting himself on display like that.  But Peter, my beau, explained - at least he's getting out and sharing his music and he's so much more alive than he was 10 years ago.

It was wonderful and sad.  Now when I go back and listen to my play lists, I will have a different memory of Brian Wilson when the Beach Boy selections play.

I just wanted to run up and hug him.

Yeah, we're talkin' 'bout my generation.

40 Year Reunion-Saturday, August 11, 2007.

It's not too late to RSVP!!!

The reunion is moving right along, plans seem to be falling in place, and it has been fun getting everyone and everything together. The web site seems to be getting the reunion started early by providing an avenue for getting in contact with old friends...and with some we never had a chance to get to know way back when...we are getting to know them now. After all, we had over 400 classmates and that was just in our class. That does not count those we were friends with from other classes that were about as big as ours. How could we then, and how can we now, talk to all those we want to talk to in only 6 hours of a reunion night? And...what is interesting about this reunion is that people that don't usually come to reunions seem to be RSVPing for this one.

There is still about 2 months to encourage more to come. There is also talk of drinks on the Friday night, somewhere, before the reunion and maybe a picnic the Sunday afterwards. Maybe some might be making other plans outside of the reunion committee. We will see what is feasible for the committee to plan...but it all sounds like fun.

The Committee will be meeting again in July, date to be announced, and final plans will be made...and fine tuned. Stay tuned to the web site but also help us keep the web site tuned in by sending in things about yourselves and when you find missing classmates or when info needs to be updated.

Thanks again to all the wonderful people who are making this reunion happen!!!

We had a great meeting last night and are really on target for a terrific reunion, thanks to everyone's hard work.  Debbie Kraus Urban is doing an awesome job of communicating with everyone, as you well know.  She must have tons of energy to keep on plugging along, and I can't even imagine the hours, days, weeks she's put in on this project!  Kay White Wortman is doing a great job keeping us focused and coordinating everything.  Her expertise has been invaluable, and she's been tremendous with keeping track of the books - she, too, has really put in countless hours.  Susan Eaker Montgomery has been very helpful in many ways - does whatever she's asked to do.  Mary Rickman Simmons has some great ideas for decorating (everything generously donated) and obtaining attendance prizes and is working hard on those.  And, Debbie Goff(I forget her married name - sorry, Deb!) is going to come up with some very simple, classy, elegant table decorations that she'll have ready for the evening - her time and materials donated, also, thank you very much!!

Chuck-A-Burger in St. John to close
By D. Paul Harris
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
06/01/2007

May 31, 2007: Carol McCain (left), 61, of Bel-ridge has worked with Chuck-A-Burger for 30 years. Here she waits on longtime customers Faye Staufenbiel (center), and Daughter Ginger Willis (right), 19.

ST. JOHN — The Chuck-A-Burger, the restaurant that looks like it could double as a set in "American Graffiti," is closing at the end of the year.

The restaurant, which opened at 9025 St. Charles Rock Road in 1957, will lose its lease Dec. 31.

Owner Ron Stille opened another Chuck-A-Burger two years ago in St. Charles , and he said he can't afford to buy the property here.

"It makes me sick because I grew up there," said Stille, 52, of Ellisville.

"It's touched thousands of lives, including my family and friends. When my dad passed away in 1999, I went down there in the middle of the night and just stood in the kitchen and cried. Because this was family … how much that store means to us."

The restaurant, which seats 42 inside and has 65 parking spaces, also is close to the hearts of legions of customers.

"That's where you went to meet your buddies or to take your girlfriend and sit in the parking lot and drink a cherry Coke," Stille said. "On Friday or Saturday night you'd cruise around in your '57 Chevy before you went to a drive-in movie or after a movie."

Chuck-A-Burger opened its first store in 1955 at Page and Pennsylvania avenues in Pagedale. At the company's peak, in the 1960s, there were eight locations in the St. Louis area.

Stille's father, Ralph, was the first manager of the Rock Road restaurant. Ralph Stille bought the business in 1978 and Ron and his wife, Linda, bought it from Ralph in 1995.

The business faded in the 1970s in the face of chain competition, but in 1982 Ron and his father revitalized the store by starting "cruise nights" on weekends, making it a meeting place for classic cars, carhops and '50s and '60s music.

Some customers Thursday took the news hard.

"I remember as a kid, I used to watch the snow falling from the window here while I was waiting for my food," said Mike Pogue, 44, of St. John , as he received a burger and fries. "My mom brought me here quite a bit. Now I work right up the street, and I still come here for lunch. I'm really going to miss it."

Faye Staufenbiel, 55, of west St. Louis County, has been a regular customer for 40 years. She says the drive doesn't bother her because she loves the food and the nostalgia.

"I really hate to see it close," Staufenbiel said as she waited for her order with her 19-year-old daughter, Ginger Willis.

Among the restaurant's 23 employees is Carol McCain, 61, an inside waitress who has been with restaurant three-plus decades. She said she'd miss the customers the most.

"They call me 'Chuck-A-Burger Carol,'" she said.

DENISE'S FINAL REUNION MUSIC LIST

Next Committee Meeting is Monday, 6:30 PM, June 4th, 2007, at the Sheraton Westport Plaza. More info to come.

Still need help with MISSING CLASSMATES !!!

April 30th Meeting:

The committee had their April 30th Meeting and all went quite well. COMMITTEE PICTURES

Hurrah!!! The Reunion is good to go!!!

Decorations were talked about and emails have been sent to those who expressed an interest in helping.  If someone was missed, please email Pattonville1967@aol.com and let us know.

Linda Fitch is working on a video surprise in FLA so she will be coordinating with folks back up here in St. Louis to make sure we have whatever equipment is needed. If anyone has some pictures from other reunions, please contact her at:  LindaFFP1@aol.com so that she can add them into her video surprise.

Denise Guarnery, in CA, is using her theatrical expertise in planning the music. As you are probably aware that the band idea lost to a DJ by a land slide. However, Denise just might have what it takes to please us all...not too loud but good enough to dance to. To request your favorite 60's songs, send a MUSIC REQUEST straight to Denise.

Barb Windle is still our cheer leader from afar, also in FLA, and got some of us going again when things were looking uncertain if the reunion was going to be a go or not. But it looks like it is good to go so keep sending in those RSVPs. We still want as many as we can get.

For those who are still on the fence about attending the reunion, the deadline for a final count is 3 days before the reunion, August 11th, but please try to get us your RSVP before then as we want to make this reunion full of things to remember.

Debbie Kraus, in MO, is still looking for classmates but thinks the word of mouth about the reunion has to have time to get out to see what people pop up that were not found yet. You know how news travels. But feel free to look at the "7th Wave List"and try to find someone for us...or the MISSING CLASSMATES and if you have info on them that we can check out, let us know Pattonville1967@aol.com

The web site http://pattonville1967.tripod.com, and CHAT ROOM are both free, which explains all the ads, but it is for all to use. Please submit your bio, a pix, or both so we can have fun reading things about one another whether you attend the reunion or not.

Thanks goes out to all that are working on the reunion and/or just sending us good thoughts. With all these creative minds at work, this is surely going to be a great reunion.

Take care all and stay tuned for more updates on the reunion.

Email: Pattonville1967@aol.com for more info.
